Overview

Perhaps no other locomotive ever had a more appropriate name than the legendary Union Pacific "Big Boy". Measuring an immense 132 feet long and weighing in at almost 1.2 million pounds, the Big boy was the largest steam engine of all time and proudly carried its descriptive monikor coined by an Alco shopworker. The engine's unequaled size required that lighter rails be replaced, turntables rebuilt, and curves realigned to accept the tremendous overhang. But, the big Boy's value to the Union Pacific quickly justified these expenses as the engine displayed its remarkable strength when negotiating the notorious grades found on Sherman Hill and elsewhere on the Union Pacific. MTH is proud to bring to life, in incredible detailed glory, the largest and heaviest O Gauge steam locomotive ever constructed. Quality constructed of die-cast metal, the RailKing Big Boy is meticulously adorned with detail and sports a tremendous list of fantastic MTH features.
