The three facilities of U.S. Steel's Mon Valley Works create sheet steel for everything from cars to refrigerators to metal buildings. Mon Valley trains carrying molten metal serve the blast furnaces of the Edgar Thomson Plant, located southeast of Pittsburgh. Steel slabs from Edgar Thomson are sent by rail to the nearby Irvin Plant where they are rolled into sheet products of all types, and to the Fairless Plant outside Philadelphia that produces galvanized sheets.
