Overview
The U50 and U50C were General Electric's atypically flat-faced solution to Union Pacific's longing for extremely high horsepower single locomotives. These twin-engined monsters produced 5000 hp using GE's FDL-series engines. The U50C differed significantly from the earlier U50 in several ways: the radiators and generators changed places, with the U50C's radiators at the center and generators at the ends, it measured 79 feet long (to the U50's incredible 83 feet 6 1/2 inches), and the U50C had two three-axle, three motor trucks, as opposed to the earlier model's four four-axle trucks. UP bought 40 U50Cs between 1969 and 1971. Capture everyone's attention with this huge powerhouse of a locomotive. Fully outfitted with Proto-Sound 2.0, the U50C is value-packed with loads of action, excitement and fun. You'll be amazed at how smoothly and realistically the engine creeps thanks to the industry-leading Proto-Speed Control system. Fully detailed and dozens of quality digital sounds ensure that the U50C looks and sounds like the real thing.
